Speaker’s Edge Day 1 Reflections:
It’s great to see MBA classmates again after a much deserved winter break. There’s a ton of energy in the air as we prepare for our informative speeches and market place pitch ideas. Today we each had the chance to present an outline of our informative speech to 15 or so of our classmates.
The constructive feedback that you get from your classmates is what makes the speaker’s edge such a unique program. It’s all about making you a better public speaker and articulating your ideas in a business setting. People want you to succeed and they’re willing to tell you what they think about how you present your informative communication.
The goal of the informative speech is to present technically complex information to a non-technical audience. Topics in my section range from the rise in technical analysis of Major League Baseball statistics to the ways in which social media can affect a customer’s perception of a brand or business.
My topic deals with the main hurdles to clear before widespread early detection of cancer becomes possible. Got great feedback from Ryan Andrews, a classmate who knows much about cancer research and treatment. Ryan’s father, Ron Andrews is CEO of Clarient, a GE Healthcare Company and leading provider of cancer diagnostic testing. Mr. Andrews is scheduled to speak to the Ole Miss MBA program later in March.
Tomorrow we have the opportunity to present an outline of our market place pitch. I’ll be sure to report how it goes…
